Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Border Crossing

Your tour begins with arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, where you will be warmly welcomed by your guide from Monumental Expeditions and Safaris. You will then travel to the scenic town of Gisenyi, located near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Rwanda’s rolling hills and lush tea plantations.

After completing border formalities at Gisenyi, you will cross into Congo and proceed to Virunga National Park. Upon arrival at your lodge within the park, you will check in and take time to relax in preparation for the next day’s adventure.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Nature Exploration

Following an early breakfast, you will head to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. The session covers gorilla behavior, conservation efforts, and safety protocols to ensure a respectful and informative experience.

Accompanied by experienced rangers, you will set off on a guided trek in search of a habituated gorilla family. Upon locating them, you will have up to one hour to observe these incredible animals in their natural environment—a truly unforgettable encounter.

After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some rest. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided nature walk through Virunga National Park, where you may encounter various bird species and unique plant life. Return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Departure

After breakfast and check-out, visit the Senkwekwe Gorilla Orphanage, where you’ll gain insight into the conservation work being carried out to care for orphaned gorillas and protect their habitat.

You will then drive to Goma and re-enter Rwanda. Once back in Rwanda, the tour continues with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, an important site that honors the victims of the 1994 genocide and highlights the country’s path to healing and unity.
