7-Day Uganda Birding Safari Itinerary, Join Monumental Expeditions and Safaris on this 7-day birding adventure through some of Uganda’s most diverse bird habitats. Uganda is known as Africa’s premier birding destination, with over 1,060 bird species recorded. This tour offers birdwatchers the opportunity to explore a range of environments, from wetlands and forests to savannahs and crater lakes.
Day 1: Birding in Entebbe and Surroundings
Our guide will pick you up from your hotel and begin the day birding around Entebbe, including areas near Lake Victoria. You will search for species such as the Blue Monarch, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Brown Twinspot, Moustached Warbler, White-headed Barbet, African Pied Hornbill, Red-chested Sunbird, and more.
After lunch in Entebbe, visit the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, home to over 250 bird species including the rare Shoebill Stork, Northern Masked Weaver, and Orange Weaver. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Entebbe to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, transfer to Mpanga Forest, located west of Kampala. The forest is rich in birdlife and features species such as the Blue-breasted Kingfisher, African Pied Hornbill, Great Blue Turaco, and African Grey Parrot. Continue to Lake Nabugabo, a lagoon lake near Lake Victoria, to view a variety of water birds including Herons and the Lesser Jacana.
Proceed to Lake Mburo National Park for dinner and overnight at Rwonyo Camp or Mantana Luxury Tented Camp.
Day 3: Lake Mburo to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Begin the day with a game drive in Lake Mburo National Park, spotting birds and wildlife such as zebras, antelopes, and elands. Take a boat ride on Lake Mburo to see wetland birds and possibly hippos. After lunch, drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, enjoying scenic views along the way. Enjoy an evening game drive en route to your lodge.

Day 4: Birding in Queen Elizabeth National Park
Start with a morning game drive to search for bird species like the Saddle-billed Stork, Brown Snake Eagle, Bateleur, and Grey Kestrel. After lunch, take a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel to spot large populations of hippos and migratory birds such as African Skimmers, Grey-headed Gulls, and Pink-backed Pelicans. Return to Jacana Safari Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Game Drive and Transfer to Fort Portal
Take a final game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park in the morning. After lunch, transfer to Fort Portal, a town set against the backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains. Visit the Crater Lakes region before heading to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Birding in Bigodi Wetlands
After breakfast, visit the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, known for its rich birdlife. You may spot the Great Blue Turaco, Papyrus Canary, and White-winged Warblers during a guided nature walk. Continue into the forest for a chance to see primates, tree species, and more forest birds.
In the afternoon, explore the Crater Lakes region again, where species like the White-spotted Flufftail, Scaly-throated Honeyguide, and Yellow-billed Barbet may be seen. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Fort Portal to Kampala
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before departing Fort Portal for Kampala. Stop in Mubende for lunch and continue your journey, arriving in Kampala in the late afternoon.
