New Rushaga Gorilla Family-Rwigi.

Any visitor considering a Gorilla Tour to Uganda has optimism as gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park in Uganda is once again expanding. There are now nine Rushaga Gorilla Families, which adds to the 72 Gorilla licenses, therefore increasing the likelihood of visitors running into Gorillas.

This occurred in the Southern portion of Bwindi (RUSHAGA SECTOR), when one of the groups known as Kahunge separated to create a new Gorilla family, therefore resulting in eight (8) Gorilla families now present. With twenty-four (24) individuals including four (4) silverbacks Kahunge is the largest Gorilla family in this area, recognized for having a dominant male.

How then the Rwigi family got about?

One of the silverbacks, Rushaga gorilla families, had to leave the group when a conflict started from miscommunication with the dominant male. One of the men who battled Kahunge quit the gang after a dispute; because some members thought of him, he departed with some of them.

Originally separated from Kahunge in the Rushaga area, Rwigi is a new Gorilla family named after the name of its silverback and has ten (10) members. There are five females, one silverback, two young adults, two newborns among the Rwigi Gorilla family members.

Road from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda or Entebbe, where we have our International Airport, will lead you through small towns with stops at the Equator line and a lunch break. Rushaga Gorill families can be accessed in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Road access to Rushaga from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, is also possible; this journey is much shorter than that from Kampala or Entebbe. This trip crosses the border to Uganda and winds you through a picturesque road with rolling green hills of potato and banana farms, five hours to reach Rushaga in Bwindi. :
