The Sabinyo gorilla family is one of many in Volcanoes National Park; trekkers will have no trouble hearing them as they make their way around the majestic Sabinyo and Gahinga mountains. The head silverback of the family has always been Ghanda, the largest silverback in all of Volcanoes National Park; rivals have always been afraid of him and avoided attacking the family because of his intimidating appearance.

Ghanda was the oldest, largest, and strongest of the two silverbacks and other members of the group. Even though he has tried, family member Ryango has never been able to dethrone Ghanda.
