Nkuringo Gorilla Sector and gorilla family to trek.

In the park’s furthest southernmost section, this area borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Nkuringo Gorilla family, led by Rafiki, is one of the most intriguing groups of gorillas on Earth. The Nkuringo sector is home to this remarkable family. This is a major draw for sightseers.
The first habituated gorilla family in the Nkuringo sector occurred in 1997, and currently there are three in the area.

An historic occurrence in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park occurred in December 2004 when Nkuringo sector became the only sector in the southern half of the park to give birth to gorilla twins. Outside of the park, this troop of Nkuringo gorillas is famous for wandering. The locals who lived in the Nkuringo sector villages have been forced to leave their homes because of this.

There was a scabies epidemic in the Nkuringo Gorilla family in the early 2000s, but by the time it was over, only one gorilla family remained in this area.

Tourists should be enthusiastic and physically strong, since the Nkuringo sector is located at high heights, making the walk through the dense forest to see the mountain gorillas more difficult.

No one is permitted to traverse the Mountain Gorillas unless they are at least fifteen years old, and the minimum age is fifteen.
