How to get to Sipi Falls.

Sipi Falls is about 277 kilometers east of Kampala, the capital of Uganda, in the Kapchorwa area. Here’s how to get there. These waterfalls are located on the lower slopes of Mount Elgon, close to the Ugandan border with Kenya. The native banana-like plant that grows along the banks of the Sipi River is known as “sep,” and the name Sipi comes from it. The locals in that region utilize the plant as a medication to cure fevers and measles.

Three separate waterfalls, rising to varying heights, make up the Sipi Falls. The main fall, the tallest fall in the sequence, descends from a height of 100 meters; it is somewhat larger than the other two falls, although all three contribute to the breathtaking beauty of Uganda’s landscape.

To Mbale and Jinja from Kampala

It takes about 5 hours and 277 kilometers to drive from Kampala city to Sipi. You can reach Kapchorwa, the location of the stunning Sipi Falls, in eastern Uganda by driving along the Jinja route, which takes you past the fringes of Jinja town, Mbale town, and on to Jinja. As you make your way up the path, take in the sights of the verdant greenery and rugged rock faces that line the mountainside of Elgon. Just getting here by car will be an incredible adventure in and of itself.

Those staying at Murchison Falls who are interested in seeing Sipi Falls may skip the return trip to Kampala and instead travel the 400 km journey via Kamudini Corner to Lira Soroti Kumi, Saronko, and Kapchorwa.
