Uganda is one of only three places in the world where you can still find half of the world’s Mountain Gorillas. The other two are in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
In Uganda, you can go on a walk with mountain gorillas in two national parks: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks. These parks are close to each other in the far southwest of Uganda, which is known as the Pearl of Africa.
Both Entebbe/Kampala and Kigali in Rwanda can be used to get to these two national parks. You can go gorilla tracking in these parks, and it only takes 4-5 hours to get from Kigali compared to 8β9 hours to get from Entebbe/Kampala.Learn more about how to go gorilla hunting in Bwindi from Kigali.
Tourism activities that involve tracking gorillas have been stopped in both national parks because of the corona virus pandemic. All ten national parks in Uganda may also have to close soon because the same virus can easily spread to mountain gorillas since they share about 98% DNA with humans.
Uganda has been able to handle and fight pandemics for many years. To stop the spread of COVID-19, the same steps have been taken in line with the guidelines and recommendations set by the World Health Organization, the Ministry of Health, and the Ugandan government. We hope this can be stopped soon.

You should go see mountain gorillas in Uganda after COVID-19 for many reasons, but the main ones are safety and cost.
People can choose from cheap, moderate, and high-end tour packages when they want to travel. However, Uganda is one of the best places to go gorilla tracking and is also one of the most affordable places for all travelers.
This is because there is a lot of food, transportation, lodging, and other services available, making them cheaper and more accessible to many people who come to Uganda to go gorilla tracking. Rwanda’s gorilla tracking permits cost USD1500 per person per trip, while Uganda’s are only USD800 per person per trek.
Mountain Gorillas can be found in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda. The experience you get at the end of your trip is pretty much the same no matter where you go. The only difference is that Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo live in the Virunga hills, where bamboo is the main plant life.
In Uganda, on the other hand, Mountain Gorillas live in both the Virunga (in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park) and the tropical rain forest (in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park), where there are many different kinds of trees and plants. You have a 98% chance of seeing gorillas in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, or Rwanda.
This means that no matter which country you go to, you will be able to see these big cats in their natural habitat. People think it’s easier to see gorillas in Rwanda because of the plants there, but this is just their opinion and the fact that Rwanda is more heavily advertised than Uganda. People who have been to Uganda to see gorillas will also love Bwindi Forest National Park.
Great times tracking gorillas
Gorilla tracking is one of the best organized tourist activities in Uganda. During your walk, you are given the utmost safety and are led by experienced rangers to make sure you have the best experience possible. There is a great gorilla tracking experience called the Gorilla Habituation Experience that can only be done in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Forest National Park. This is one of the national parks in Uganda where you can go gorilla tracking and spend 4 hours watching gorillas in the jungle.
You can combine gorilla tracking with a boat ride on the Kanzinga Channel and game watching in Queen Elizabeth National Park if you want to see more interesting things in Uganda. This is a great add-on that you should definitely see. One of the best places to see wildlife in Uganda, both on land and in water, is the Kazinga Channel.
It will be fun to go on both game drives and boat cruises on the Kazinga channel. You can see tree-climbing cats in the Ishasha sector of the southern park of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You can also track chimpanzees in Kibale Forest National Park and see wildlife in Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley National Parks, among other places. This will depend on how long you want your Great tour to last when you go to Uganda.
During your Great Gorilla tour in Uganda, efforts will be made to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In addition to the usual rules that the Uganda Wildlife Authority makes people follow when they go gorilla tracking, the Uganda Tourism Board has also issued travel guidelines that we must follow during the post-Corona virus outbreak. This is because the Corona virus is currently a threat to Uganda’s travel trade and tourism assets.
All tour operators, travel agencies, and places to stay have sinks with soap for washing your hands on their property and on all journey cars and boats.
To make the tourism industry more ready as a whole, tour companies, agencies, and lodgings are asked to keep masks (N95) on hand for their customers.
All tour companies and travel firms should tell people who want to go to Uganda to bring their own masks.
To keep their workers and guests from getting the Corona virus, all tour companies, travel firms, and places to stay should teach both groups and individuals.
Some of these steps are not shaking hands or touching, washing hands with disinfectants or hand sanitizers, and regularly cleaning and sterilizing surfaces and objects that are touched a lot, like door handles.
Rules and laws for tracking gorillas
Here are the rules that tourists who want to go gorilla tracking in Uganda must follow. These rules were made by the Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Before leaving on the walk to see thea:
Do not go to see the gorillas if you are sick with a cold or something else that can spread. The head park guard will decide, and he or she can refuse to let you go on the trek. Because of this, you should always check with your doctor before going to the park to make sure you are healthy enough to go gorilla tracking.
Tracking gorillas requires that you are at least 15 years old. This is always made clear when you sign up for the Gorilla trek and have to show your original passport to prove that you are old enough to go.
Human waste should be buried 30 cm (12β) deep. The park ranger who leads your hike will always tell you this and will dig a hole for you to use.
There can be no more than eight guests per gorilla group. This makes it easier to keep track of people moving through the bush and keeps the Mountain Gorillas from acting up during the trip.
As you walk like a gorilla:
It is best to keep your sounds down. You might also see different kinds of birds and other wild animals. If you look really hard, you might even see some snakes.
DO NOT leave trash in the park. Bring everything you bring into the forest back out with you in your backpack.
Along the way, there will be places to rest and time to relax. The groups always go by the person who is moving the slowly, because you have to stay in one group.
The guides will tell you to get ready for an amazing sighting when you get close to the Mountain Gorillas.
Going to see the gorillas:
Keep your distance from the gorillas at least 7 meters (21 feet). This will help keep you from spreading diseases to the Mountain Gorillas through the air.
It is against the rules to smoke, eat, or drink. This could make the gorillas want to charge you and grab them.
Cover your face when you cough or sneeze and stay away from the gorillas. They can catch coughs and colds from people.
Visitors are only allowed to spend an hour with each gorilla group every day, except for people doing the Gorilla Habituation Experience, who can only stay for four hours. The time starts to run when you find new gorilla trails.
When you take shots, don’t use flash photos. Also, be careful and listen to what your forest guide says.
