Brief information about the tour
Our 3-day Lake Mburo wildlife, boat, and walking safari is ideal for anyone living in Mbarara or Kampala and wanting to spend a few nights in one of Uganda’s smallest but nearest national parks. Lake Mburo National Park is recovering from wildlife-human conflicts in the 1970s and 1980s, when significant species such as lions were hunted to extinction. Some species, including lions and giraffes, have been reintroduced to Lake Mburo thanks to Uganda Wildlife Authority efforts to restore it to its former grandeur.
Day By Day Tour Summary
Day 1: Start your 3-day lake mburo wildlife, boat and walking safari
You will be met by a Monumental Expeditions and safari guide, who will educate you on the three-day Lake Mburo wildlife, boat, and walking safari. You will be transported to Lake Mburo National Park through tiny towns along the Kampala-Mbarara route, arriving in time for lunch, a short rest, and a quick evening wildlife drive. This journey allows you to stop at the Equator crossing for photographs and tests to verify that this is, in fact, the center of the Earth. Our three-day Lake Mburo wildlife, boat, and walking safari includes a trip to Mpambire Royal Drum Makers to observe how native drums are created from trees, animal hides, and skins. Check in at your lodge, have lunch, and get ready for a short late afternoon game drive.
Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat excursion
Following breakfast, your driving guide will take you to the park for a game drive or safari walk, depending on your preferences. Lake Mburo National Park has a long history of conflict between wildlife and humans, with important creatures such as lions being hunted/killed to extinction. However, because of better relationships between the government and local communities, animals and communities now coexist. As a result, numerous species have been reintroduced, including lions (although they are rarely seen) and giraffes. A wildlife drive in Lake Mburo National Park can ensure herds of buffaloes, zebras, impalas, birds, and much more without requiring much driving. Return to the lodge for lunch, relaxation, and an evening boat excursion on the lake.
After lunch and a little rest, you will be transported to the lake to meet your skipper for the day, who will take you on a two-hour boat tour. A Lake Mburo boat ride provides the opportunity to witness hippos, crocodiles, water birds such as the African fish eagle, and the uncommon African fin foot. Many animals, including buffaloes and antelopes, converge here to drink water, providing an opportunity to view nature, particularly marine species. After your boat tour, you’ll return to your lodge for supper and sleep.
Day 3: Morning safari walk and departure
After breakfast, you will be greeted by a Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide, who will inform you before leading you on a safari tour on foot. This excursion is ideal for individuals who want to stretch their legs while viewing animals on foot. At the time, only Lake Mburo offered walking safaris. You will have the opportunity to witness what you would have seen on any game drive, but this time you will do so on foot. Check out of the resort and travel back to Kampala, with lunch supplied along the way.
