Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park through the Ethnographic museum

Following breakfast, you will travel from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest, ideally early in the morning, so that we may stop at the ethnographic museum in Huye. The ethnographic museum, which is also Rwanda’s national museum, exhibits historical and cultural features of Rwanda over the years.

It offers tools and information to help you learn about Rwanda’s rich culture and history. We’ll stop for lunch at the museum prior to heading on to the Nyungwe Forest. After Huye, the roads to Nyungwe are generally winding, providing breathtaking vistas of the renowned “thousand hills.” You’ll arrive at your lodge near the Nyungwe forest later that evening, ready to tackle the chimpanzee trekking the following morning.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest National Park begins extremely early in the morning, so you should depart your accommodation as early as 5:00 a.m. to go to the briefing place at the Uwinka viewpoint. The Uwinka track and the Cyamudongo portion are the two primary trailheads for Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest.

The forest has around 200 kinds of trees and flowering plants, 13 species of primates, including colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, and red-tailed monkeys, 300 bird species, such as numerous Albertine rift endemics, and several butterfly species. Following the briefing, you will be sent to the appropriate path. If it is Cyamudongo, you must drive a specific distance before your driver guide will transport you to the beginning place. After the chimpanzee trek, there is a canopy walk or you may return to the resort for some rest and then go on the canopy walk later in the afternoon.

Day 3: Departure

Following breakfast, you begin your trip back to Kigali after the incredible three-day chimpanzee trekking safari. Prior to going on this excursion, you have the choice of hiking with colobus monkeys.

Snap your final shots of the gorgeous Nyungwe forest before departing for Kigali International Airport or your accommodation, marking the end of your 3-day Nyungwe Forest National Park.
