In the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, on the banks of the majestic Nile River, is a five-star bakery. Located in a spacious private area that has been cleared of any thick undergrowth, this upscale, intimate safari-style resort has nicely manicured grassed areas, enormous shaded trees, and wetland sections with numerous birds along the water’s edge.

The river views are expansive and breathtaking, with islands that are home to nesting egrets, elephants that take a dip, and pods of hippos that are often seen.

Due to the proximity to the river, boat rides down the Nile are a must-do, whether you’re seeing the Murchison Falls, cruising downstream to the delta region, or taking in a breathtaking sunrise or sunset. There are 4×4 safari vehicles and rangers available for those who want a more conventional game watching experience.

Named after the famous English explorer Samuel Baker, Luxury Bakers Lodge is a place of unparalleled luxury. During his voyage up the Nile in the late 1800s, he and his companion Florence spent time in this area. He was the first European to see the Murchison Falls a little farther upstream, which he named for himself.

Park near Murchison Falls

Among our 10 national parks, Murchison Falls National Park is the biggest. Located in western Uganda, it was established in 1862 by the first Europeans to set foot in what is now the Murchison Falls Conservation Area, John Speke and James Grant.

Originally called Murchison Falls National Park in honor of geologist Roderick Baker, the park was rechristened Kabalega in 1864 following an exploration by Sir Samuel and his wife Florence in the early 1863s.

Trekking with chimpanzees in the Budongo forest

Chimpanzee trekking is the major attraction for travelers visiting the area. One of the top spots in Uganda to go chimpanzee tracking is the Budongo forest reserve. Kaniyo Pabidi, just south of Murchison Falls National Park, is where the most of the tracking occurs.

Prior to beginning chimpanzee trekking in Budongo, visitors are often briefed at the information center located inside the Budongo Eco Lodge. The forest’s well-marked paths make it easy for sightseers to see chimpanzees, other primates, and birds.

Driving a game

Wildlife enthusiasts will enjoy game drives at Murchison Falls National Park, where they may see over 450 bird species in addition to elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, waterbuck, and Jackson’s hurtbeast.
