Gorilla Permit booking information: To trek mountain gorillas in the 3 Habitats—Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga National Park (Uganda), and Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), DR Congo inclusive—you need to have gorilla permits handled by each of these national parks and relevant gorilla permits. Booking information can be provided by Monumental Expeditions Safaris for both Uganda and Rwanda so as to plan for your gorilla venture in advance and properly. A gorilla permit is a licence, ticket, or document issued to travellers over 15 years old allowing them to visit or trek mountain gorillas in their natural habitats or any of the three habitats: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Uganda), Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda), and Mgahinga National Park (Uganda). Gorilla trekking is an exhilarating activity done in only three countries (Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo).
When should one book a gorilla permit?
It is usually advised to book a gorilla permit at least 5 months earlier or prior to your trip, and in the process, pay the gorilla permit fee in advance so that it can easily be gotten for you. Only when you have a gorilla permit can you involve yourself in the gorilla trekking activity. During the peak seasons of June, July, August, September, December, and February, gorilla permits in Uganda and Rwanda become scarce and highly competitive. That’s why you are advised to book your permits 3–4 months in advance.
Cost of a Gorilla Permit
The cost of the Uganda Gorilla Permit through the Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters is $700 per person (foreign non-residents), $500 (foreign residents), and Ugx 250,000 (East African citizens), and the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit is $1500.Rwanda permits for Volcanoes Gorilla National Park rate at $1500 for all above 15 years of age throughout the year (through Rwanda Development Board offices in Kigali or Ruhengeri), and the Gorilla Habituation Experience Permit is $1500.
Facts about the Gorilla permit
- It determines the region where you will trek gorillas.
- It also includes where you are going to stay for all your tour time (accommodation),
- It also specifies which section you are to be in. For instance, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has many sections, each having its own gorilla groups or families and accommodation properties, like Buhoma in the north, Ruhija in the east, Rushaga in the south, and Nkuringo in the south.
- These permits are non-refundable once cancelled, this is because much as there could be a high demand for permits it may not suit the clients in terms of accommodation,
- Since each region has its own Gorilla group, for those wanting to trek in these regions, you should let Monumental Expeditions safaris know so that it can act perfectly well while booking your Gorilla permit
