Explore Sibiloi National Park

Explore Sibiloi National Park – Turkana cultural visit, Kenya wildlife tours and safaris.

Visit Sibiloi National Park, sometimes referred to as “The Cradle of Mankind.” Among the significant archaeological sites at Sibiloi, situated on the wild and mountainous shores of Lake Turkana—the birthplace of mankind—are the remnants of the Koobi people, whose development has been better understood thanks to these artifacts than at any other site in Africa.

The landscape is defined by broad plains and semi-desert habitats, framed by volcanic structures such as Mount Sibiloi, which displays the remnants of a petrified forest. As well as being an important nesting site for the Nile crocodile, Sibiloi provides a rest point for migrating birds. The list of terrestrial animals is long and contains much more than just these: zebras, Grant gazelles, lions, leopards, striped hyenas, Beisa oryx, greater kudu, cheetahs, and northern topi.

Lake Turkana is home to more than 350 different kinds of birds, both aquatic and terrestrial. The Turkana, the Gabra, and the Dassanach are ancestral peoples that surround Sibiloi and are known for their pristine, traditional customs.

Turkana Lake. With over 350 avi-fauna species recorded, including flamingos, pelicans, herons, and ducks, Sibiloi National Park in the Northern Frontier is an excellent destination for birding safaris. The park shares the waters of Lake Turkana and encompasses 606 square miles (1570 square kilometers) of stunning landscape.

The National Museums of Kenya had a hand in creating the park in order to protect the shoreline of the lake, its ancient monuments, and certain areas of desert bushland.

The only body of water inside the park is Lake Turkana. Since its inception in 1973, Sibiloi has worked to save a wide variety of species, including those of great ecological significance, as well as some of the world’s most important archeological sites. The park has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its cultural, historical, and natural values.

Sibiloi National Park’s Animals.

Some herbivores that you could see are grant’s gazelles, hippos, reticulated giraffes, greater kudus, beisa oryxes, and topis, among many more. Additionally, land carnivores are very hard to see, and the skimmers, central, and south islands are home to the greatest concentration of Nile crocodiles on Earth.

Sibiloi National Park Birds.

The Somali ostrich, Kori bustard, Heuglin’s bustard, chestnut-bellied sand grouse, Somali bee-eater, northern carmine bee-eater, and fox kestrel are some of the most notable birds found in Sibiloi. During the months of March through May, the Park is also well-known as a migration route for birds from Europe.
