Fishing trips in Murchison Falls National Park

Fishing trips in Murchison Falls National Park – fishing trips on the Nile River.

Fishing excursions at Murchison Falls National Park— Murchison Falls National Park is the only place you can go fishing on the Nile, but you’ll need a pro to make sure you and your clients stay safe as you cast your line.

While some of you may be up to the task of taking on the Nile with nothing more than a boat and captain, the vast majority of fisherman would be wise to bring a knowledgeable guide to keep things moving smoothly.

Murchison Falls National Park Access

The northwesterly route to Murchison Falls National Park from Entebbe takes about six hours and passes via Kampala (depending on traffic). Most of the roads leading up to the park are paved. Murrum roads are located within the National Park.

Private transportation with a driver is included in our all-inclusive outings. The cars are roomy, comfortable 4×4 Land Cruisers with plenty of space for fishing gear. On the other hand, if time is of the essence, you may always arrange an internal flight between Entebbe and Murchison Falls National Park.

Seasons for traditional fishing in Uganda

Generally speaking, the driest months of the year tend to have better fishing results, however this does not always hold true for the fishing expeditions at Murchison Falls National Park. We have all-year weather from December to March and June to October, with the exception of the months of June and October, when there is less likelihood of rainfall.

At any given time of year, thunderstorms may strike at any moment. Stay away from the rain from the beginning of April until the middle of May. To get up-to-date information before making a reservation, call Monumental Expeditions and Safaris.

Conditions and fishing grounds

The region at the foot of Murchison Falls is the most popular spot for sport fishing in the park. The riverbank rocks or, if you’re using a boat, the pools a little farther downstream are good spots to cast your line. Wonderful Journeys If you want your fishing safari to be a success, you need a boat that can reach all the fishing areas.Fishing trips in Murchison Falls National Park – fishing trips on the Nile River.

Sunscreen, caps, and long-sleeved shirts are essential pieces of gear for fisherman visiting Murchison Falls, since the temperatures may reach 40 degrees Celsius, particularly during the midday. We also advise wearing long pants and insect body spray repellant during periods when tsetse flies are abundant.

Fishing techniques and gear

Nile perch and other catfish species are among those captured with live bait casting lures. Spinning also yields a wide range of smaller species, such as tiger fish, which are used as live bait. A rod with a fixed spool or multiplier reel, and a length of three to eight feet (2.4 meters), is what we suggest. A spinning rod size 7 with 5 kilograms (10 pounds) of line is sufficient for the smaller species.

Reels— With 30-35 lb. line (17kg), any reel with a fixed spool or multiplier will work for Nile perch and catfish. Which one to use is a matter of taste and how proficient you are with multipliers. Any rod that can easily throw tiny spinners will do for tiger fish and other smaller species.

Things to bring on fishing excursions to Murchison Falls

Because the National Park does not have any stores, visitors are expected to bring all essential items, including sunblock, prescriptions, cigarettes, extra batteries for devices and cameras, and bug spray. Due to the high temperatures, we recommend bringing plenty of sun protection, including hats, sunglasses, and creams. If you plan on beach fishing from the rugged, steep rocks, you should wear hiking or safari boots.

To keep cool and avoid being bit by tsetse flies, it’s preferable to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing while fishing. The greatest protection against tsetse flies is long sleeves and pants, and you should try to avoid wearing dark blue or black colors if at all feasible. You should also bring a lightweight raincoat and a jumper for the nights.

Additional Tours You Can Choose From

While you’re there, you may also go on wildlife drives, cruises down the Nile, or even go chimpanzee trekking. We can gladly provide you more information if you’re interested, but please note that the prices we estimate do not always include these trips to Murchison Falls National Park.

We also offer the option to combine your fishing trip with other activities in Uganda, such as seeing the mountain gorillas, as an extra service for those who would want.
