The tropical rain forest of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has typical yearly temperatures ranging from 7–15°C to 20–27°C. Between 1,400 and 1,900 millimeters of rain falls there each year. In March and April, as well as in September and November, the torrential rains reach their peak.

The mountain gorillas are a major draw for visitors to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a World Heritage Site. Half of the mountain gorilla population still calls this area home. Of the estimated 800+ Mountain Gorillas in the world, 400+ call this forest home.

Situated on the rift valley’s edge in the country’s southwestern region lies Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) forms Bwindi National Park’s western boundary. The closest major town to the park, Kabale, is located 29 kilometers southeast of the park, and the area is sometimes called the impenetrable forest.

The 331-square-kilometer beautiful national park is situated in the highest regions of the Kigezi highlands, at a height of 1,190 to 2,607 meters above sea level; 60% of the park’s territory is at an elevation of more than 2,000 meters. Rwamunyonyi hill, located on the park’s eastern side, is the highest point within the park, while the northernmost tip is the lowest.

Getting to Bwindi Forest National Park from Entebbe or Kampala takes about 9–10 hours by car, while a chartered aircraft takes just an hour. Traveling and other little activities often occupy the first and end days of a Uganda Gorilla Safari or Safari.
