Gorilla Permit Cost
Your most important item to must- have on your Tour budget is your Gorilla Permit. This is the only document /licence/ticket to allowing you meet these Gentle giants and spend time with them for strictly 1 hr(Gorilla Tracking) or 4 hrs(Gorilla Habituation Experience) per person in Uganda. Apparently the cost of a Uganda Gorilla Tracking Permit is $ 600 each while the Gorilla Habituation Permit experience permit costs $1500 and all distributed by Uganda Wildlife Authority under a system of “first-come-first-serve” Monumental Expeditions does obtain and book Gorilla permits on behalf of the travelers in Uganda. You are advised to do Gorilla Tracking Permit Booking early enough(3-5 months) in advance because as you can see these permits are always on high demand especially during the high/Dry seasons of June to July, August and September then December, January and February.
Transport (Price & Cost)
Another crucial feature you need to consider as regards your Gorilla Safari is your rough estimate of income & expenditure on transportation. you will have to organise your transport both to and from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park either way that is if you going to fly over as well by Air (Aero link Uganda Limited) which has scheduled flights both to &from. Transfer from Entebbe airport, landing in either Kihihi/Kisoro airstrip then to the Forest. Other companies regarding flights include Fly Uganda, Eagle Air Operate Charter Flights. Description of 3 Day Bwindi being the lowest of days to this park -where on Day 1 transfer from Entebbe / Kampala –Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Day 2 is strictly trekking these gentle giants and Day 3 Transfer back to Entebbe / Kampala. You need a very good travel plan because these are long hours of travelling/driving and the best ideal you can get is to entrust Monumental Expeditions to drive you as you enjoy the magnificent viewing and comfort. Where to stay is another big factor to be looked into on your Gorilla Safari and be fixed in your Safari/ tour budget. Bwindi Impenetrable National itself has gotten Hotels, Lodges, guest houses, Camps where you can stay when on your safari and ranges from Budget ($50-$70), Mid-range ($80-$120) and Luxury ($250)- characterized with meal offers either full board or half board. So for a short Gorilla Safari (3 Days), you will have to spend 2 overnights (1st night arrival & 2nd night on the Gorilla Tracking session/activity being done) at one of your preferred accommodation sites in the Bwindi Impenetrable National park
Cost of Tips
Giving tips is one form of appreciation for one’s good offer of service regarding your Gorilla Safari. Viewing of the the Gentle Giants is one of the hardest task to track, these Rangers in both Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park spend a lot of time habituating and tracing these Gorillas’ moving tracks to be able to know when you get to visit, you are assured to see the mountain Gorillas. Other people you should tip include your Driver guides, Waiters found at the Hotels, lodges and Porters are among the other people who need to be appreciated or tipped. Tipping is a good gesture but not a must do thing, just one way of appreciating the people who have helped you see through your dream of meeting & viewing the only existing gentle giants (mountain gorillas) in the world.
Cost of the Porters
Monumental Expeditions as a tour company we do recommend having a porter on your Gorilla Safari Experience at least one for valid reasons like, these porters are most times strong boys &girls staying within the vicinity of the Park so this is one way of sustaining them & their families, some getting through with school thus contributing to the development of the Community as you pay them.
They engage in specified activities like help out on carrying your bags and as you soon reaching the mountain gorillas, they stay with all your belongings behind as you experience the moment freely with these gentle giants.
