Outdoor Shoe
Gloves for gardening
Clothes with long sleeves
Eyewear and headwear
Weatherproof outerwear
Dress pants
Extensive footwear
When is the best time to visit Rwanda and Uganda to see the gorillas?
Any time of year is perfect for a visit to the Pearl of Africa. The ideal time to do mountain gorilla trekking, forest wandering, or bird viewing is during the dry season, which is June through January.
Points of rest
The Uganda road journey isn’t complete without brief rest stops, food, and picture opportunities. Depending on the duration of the trip, meals are also supplied while traveling.
Details on Visas
Make every effort to possess a valid visa. Online or via immigration, you may submit a visa application. An East African Visa, which can be applied for in Rwanda by those on Great Gorilla Trekking Safaris, eliminates the hassle of having to purchase separate visas for travel inside Rwanda and Uganda.
In Uganda, tour providers mostly take US dollar bills as payment. The Uganda Shilling is the currency of choice for most purchases made in Ugandan stores and marketplaces. Keep in mind that the banks in Uganda will only take US dollars that are relatively recent, no more than four years old.
Tip Off
It is customary and very appreciated to tip your driver guide, hotel or lodge personnel, and local residents in villages. Tipping is completely voluntary. Depending on the kind of service you experienced, you are free to choose the amount to tip. Tipping encourages service providers to go above and beyond by working harder to give exceptional service.
The weather in Uganda
Temperatures in Uganda, known as the Pearl of Africa, may reach 25–29°C (77–84°F) during the tropical monsoon season, which begins in the middle of September and continues until November, with the rainiest months falling between March and May in the south of the country. December–February and June–July make up the dry season.
Temperatures are often lower in southwestern Uganda, particularly in Lake Bunyonyi, Bwindi Forest, and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, compared to northern Uganda, where Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park have warmer weather. No matter where you’re going, be sure you pack accordingly. On the other hand, our Ugandan climate is changing rapidly, so you should be prepared for some of these changes throughout your stay here.
