Hot Springs at Semuliki National Park
Semuliki National Park in Uganda is renowned for its hot springs, which are one of the major attractions in the park. Here are the two main hot springs you can visit.
Sempaya Hot Springs
Sempaya Hot Springs is the most popular and accessible hot spring in Semuliki National Park. It is located in the eastern part of the park and can be reached via the Sempaya Nature Walk. The walk takes you through the forest, where you can observe various plant and animal species. As you approach the hot springs, you will notice steam rising from the ground, creating a mystical atmosphere. The Sempaya Hot Springs consist of two springs: the male spring known as “Bintente” and the female spring known as “Nyasimbi.” Bintente is the larger and more impressive of the two, with boiling water bubbling up to 2 meters high. Nyasimbi, on the other hand, is a smaller pool with water that is hot but not boiling. Visitors often enjoy the therapeutic properties of the hot spring water and may even take a dip in the cooler sections nearby. Remember to follow any safety guidelines provided by park rangers or guides.
Mumbuga Hot Springs
Mumbuga Hot Springs is another hot spring located in Semuliki National Park, but it is less frequently visited compared to Sempaya Hot Springs. It is situated in the northeastern part of the park and requires a longer hike to reach. The trail leading to Mumbuga Hot Springs is less developed and can be more challenging, so it is advisable to go with a knowledgeable guide. The hot spring itself is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers a more secluded and serene experience. The water is warm and soothing, providing a relaxing environment to unwind and enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Both Sempaya and Mumbuga Hot Springs offer a unique opportunity to witness the geothermal activity in the region and enjoy the therapeutic qualities of the hot spring water.
