How to get to Bwindi impenetrable national park

Getting to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park involves travel by air and road. Here are the main routes and transportation options to reach the park.

 

By Air:

Fly to Entebbe International Airport (EBB): Entebbe is the main international airport in Uganda. Several airlines operate regular flights to Entebbe from major cities worldwide.

From Entebbe, take a domestic flight to Kihihi Airstrip or Kisoro Airstrip: Domestic airlines like Aerolink Uganda and Fly Uganda offer flights from Entebbe to these airstrips, which are the closest to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Upon landing, you can arrange for a transfer or hire a vehicle to drive to your chosen lodge or the park’s entrance.

 

By Road:

From Kampala.

The most common road route is from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.

  • Option 1: Take a direct road transfer: You can hire a private car with a driver or book a seat on a shared shuttle. The journey takes approximately 8-10 hours depending on the specific location within Bwindi.
  • Option 2: Take a public bus: Public buses operate from Kampala to various towns near Bwindi, such as Kabale or Kisoro. From these towns, you can arrange for further transportation to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

From Kigali (Rwanda)

Bwindi can also be reached from Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.

  • Option 1: Take a direct road transfer: Private car hire or shared shuttles can be arranged from Kigali to Bwindi, which takes around 4-5 hours depending on the specific location within the park.
  • Option 2: Take a bus to Cyanika border: Public buses operate between Kigali and Cyanika border crossing. From the border, you can arrange for transportation to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
