By Air
The closest international airport to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is Entebbe International Airport (EBB), located near the capital city of Kampala. From there, you can take a domestic flight to Kisoro Airstrip, which is the nearest airstrip to the park. Several domestic airlines operate flights between Entebbe and Kisoro. Once you arrive in Kisoro, you can arrange ground transportation to the park.
By Road
Most visitors choose to travel to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park by road, either by private vehicle or public transport. Here are the general routes:
From Kampala
The journey from Kampala to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park takes approximately 8-10 hours by road. You can hire a private vehicle or take a public bus or minibus (known as matatu) from Kampala to Kisoro town, which is the gateway to the park. From Kisoro, you can arrange further transportation to the park entrance.
From Kigali
If you’re coming from Rwanda, the nearest major city is Kigali. From Kigali, it’s a 3-4 hour drive to the Cyanika border crossing. After crossing the border into Uganda, it’s approximately a 1-2 hour drive to Kisoro town. From Kisoro, you can organize transportation to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
