Isumo Trail in Nyungwe Forest National Park

One of the most popular tracks in Nyungwe Forest is the Isumo Trail in Nyungwe Forest National Park. The name of this road comes from the Kinyarwanda word “Isumo,” which means “spout.” It’s the biggest waterfall in the Nyungwe forest. When it falls, it makes beautiful misty plumes above the Rocky River.

Ferns grow all around it. Early in the morning, the walk to Isumo waterfalls starts in open tea fields. Butterflies are watching sun-loving wildflowers, and there are views of Lake Kivu and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Surprisingly, three seats in a row are completely surrounded by a beautiful show of wildflowers, each from a different species.

The first bench is surrounded by deep pink jewelweed and has a great view of the river. The second bench is surrounded by white begonias that smell sweet, and the third bench is surrounded by white flowers that have heart-shaped leaves.

The beautiful 25-meter-high Isumo waterfalls are at the end of the Isumo trail in Nyungwe Forest National Park. As you walk along the waterfall trail, you can take pictures and look around at many interesting things, like colobus monkeys, black and white and blue monkeys, birds, and caves in the rocks that hang over the path.

There are beautiful views of Kamiranzovu Marsh, and the path leads to tall trees, glossy yellow begonias, and a small waterfall that is far away. You can often see mangabeys, blue monkeys, and colobus monkeys here. In the morning, you can also hear the singing of Turaco birds and see their red flashes.

Along the Kamiranzovu trail, you can get to Kamiranzovu Swamp, which is the park’s biggest wetland. This swamp is an interesting geological feature. It looks like a big caldera because it has a rim made of green, forest-covered mountains. The Imbaraga Trail

The Imbaraga trail in Nyungwe forest is difficult and should only be taken by experienced hikers. It leads to four beautiful waterfalls and amazing views of the Bururi valley during the walk. Hikers can hear many bird songs, as well as tree frogs, crickets, cicadas, and sometimes monkeys, as they go up and down about 9.8 kilometers of slopes. You will be given a backpack with everything you need, including binoculars to help you learn the way.

Along the Mount Bigugu trail, which goes around the park’s highest peak, you can see a wide range of colorful plants and enjoy beautiful views of Lake Kivu and the hills of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Birdwatchers will have the chance to see the Red-Collared Mountain Babbler and other interesting species along the 6.6-kilometer trail that goes up and down.
