Lake Albert
Lake Albert, Lake Albert is on the border between Uganda and the DR Congo. It is in the north of the Great Rift Valley. Rivers that flow into the lake are the Semliki River from Lake Edward and the Victoria Nile through Lake Kyoga. The beautiful Congolese mountain ranges in the east, the Mountain Rwenzori in the south, and the magnificent rocky cliffs in the west all add to the beauty of the area around Lake Albert. It is more than 160 kilometers long and about 30 kilometers wide.
It is 51 meters deep and 619 meters above sea level on top. On the way to Kibale Forest National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park, Lake Albert is a nice place to stop. Lake Albert is a great place to relax after spending a few days visiting Murchison Falls National Park. It has beautiful scenery and a calm atmosphere.

In and around Lake Albert, you can see hippos, buffalo, crocodiles, waterbuck, duiker, oribi, warthogs, colobus monkeys, leopards, and the olive baboon. Up to 460 kinds of birds have been seen in the area, making it a great place to watch birds. A lot of the animals that live at the Lake live in the Kabwoya Wildlife Reserve. A part of the lake is in the reserve.
If you walk, ride a quad bike, or ride a mountain bike through the area, you can get close to wildlife. There are also great chances to see elephants, chimpanzees, and the very rare and threatened shoebill stork at the Semliki wildlife reserve, which is on the southern tip of Lake Albert.
Tours by boat on Lake Albert
A boat ride on the Lake in the early morning or late at night is an event you will never forget. There is a beautiful view of the Blue and Rwenzori mountains in the background, which makes the light reflect off the lake’s water like a mirror. You might even see the cute and very rare shoebill stork, which hides in the weeds and reeds along the swampy shores if you’re lucky.
Mountain bike riding
It’s great to go cycling and see wildlife in the area around Lake Albert, which includes the Kabwoya Game Reserve. You can choose from a number of trails and terrains, each with its own level of challenge. You can either bring your own bikes or rent them from your lodge. Riding a quad
Kabwoya is one of the few wildlife places where you can ride a quad. Quad tours let people see remote areas that safari cars can’t get to because the ground is too soft. Quad biking is a great way to see the beautiful scenery, animals, and lots of birds in Uganda’s mountains that you wouldn’t be able to get to any other way.
Seeing birds in Volcanoes National Park
People who like birds and other animals will enjoy organized nature tours because the shores of Lake Albert and the Albertine escarpment are great places for birds and primates to live. It’s cooler outside in the early morning or late evening, so those are the best times to go for a nature walk. You need to bring comfortable walking shoes, big pants, and a lot of water. The length of a trail depends on how fit you are, but most last between one and three hours.

For dinner, you can catch your own fish on a tour on Lake Albert. There are different kinds of catfish in the lake, but the Nile Perch, which is the biggest fish that lives in the water, is the real gem. Some parts of the lake are open to fishing, but you need to get a pass from the Uganda Wildlife Authority before your trip. There are many fishing villages around Lake Albert. The Safari Lodge at Lake Albert
The Lake Albert Safari Lodge is 70 meters above Lake Albert on a cliff in the Kabwoya Game Reserve. It has a wide view of the lake. The best places to enjoy these breathtaking views are at breakfast or in the pool at the lodge. There are 12 cabins with thatched roofs and individual bathrooms. The houses were built with the outdoors in mind.
The rooms and common areas of the cabin are comfortable, and it’s a great place to relax. You can eat in a cozy dining room with a view of the pool, or you can eat in the bush for a real safari experience. Mountain and quad biking, game drives, fossil hunting, and wildlife walks are just a few of the things you can do at Lake Albert.
The Kikonko Lodge
The Albertine Rift cliffs above Kikonko Lodge offer amazing views of Lake Albert and the Rwenzori Mountains. The cabins are very roomy and have private wooden verandas with direct access to Lake Albert from each room. The windows are extra-large. There are three floors in the main restaurant where you can sit on comfortable sofas and eat fresh, tasty food. The bar area is right next to the pool, so you can sip your favorite drink and watch the kids play in the water.

How to get to Lake Albert best
It takes about 4 hours to drive from Kampala to Lake Albert, which is 260 kilometers away. If you are going to or from Murchison Falls National Park, taking the scenic route down the western cliffs to Lake Albert is a great idea. The Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos, so we suggest you stop there on the way.
