What is the best way to get there?

Volcanoes National Park is located in Musanze, formerly known as Ruhengeri, and is easily accessible by public transportation from Gisenyi, Kigali City, or the Kigali International Airport. The trip to Volcanoes National Park takes around 2–3 hours, so you may go gorilla tracking and then drive back to Kigali on the same day. You must get to the National Park headquarters in Kinigi by 7:00 a.m., therefore if you want to hike gorillas for one day, you must wake up extremely early to ensure that you reach on time. However, there is no public transit from Musanze to the National Park headquarters in Kinigi.

DAY ONE:  Arrival at Kigali International Airport, followed by transport to Volcanoes National Park

When you arrive at Kigali International Airport, our driver or guide will greet you and your day will begin with a complimentary tour of Kigali City. Kigali city, named in 1907 by Dr. Richard Kandt, Rwanda’s first colonial resident governor, is surrounded by lush green hills and is known as the land of a thousand hills. Visit intriguing places like the artisan market, the Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site, and the Kigali Museum. Depart for Ruhengeri, Rwanda’s second-biggest town, with its spectacular background of five volcanic mountains known as the Virungas, arriving late afternoon for supper and overnight.

DAY TWO: Volcanoes National Park Gorilla Trekking

Following an early breakfast, you will travel to the National Park headquarters to meet your day’s ranger guides. After finishing our park requirements, we will begin a once-in-a-lifetime experience of mountain gorilla tracking. Once you’ve found them, you have one hour to observe them. This is possibly one of the most breathtaking animal encounters on the planet!!! You get up close and personal with these magnificent, gigantic primates. You look at one another, unsure who will break the lengthy stillness first. Tracking mountain gorillas through the bright mountain forest on the Virunga slopes is a magnificent experience. These enormous primates are very uncommon, with less than 900 remaining in the wild today. You’ll be able to go within seven metres of them. The trip can be rather difficult, lasting up to six hours or more at quite high altitude.

DAY THREE: Volcanoes National Park’s Second Gorilla Tracking Experience

After an early breakfast, you will travel to the National Park headquarters to meet your ranger guides for your second day of gorilla tracking. Just like the day before, after you discover the gorillas, you get an hour to observe them. This is possibly one of the most breathtaking animal encounters on the planet! You get up close and personal with these magnificent, gigantic primates. Take the second opportunity to look at each other blankly, unsure who would break the lengthy silence first. Tracking mountain gorillas through the bright mountain forest on the Virunga slopes is a magnificent experience. These enormous primates are very uncommon, with less than 900 remaining in the wild today. You’ll be able to go within seven metres of them.
